Rain Garden

 

RAIN GARDEN: Watch it Grow!


In the spring of 2015, FoC members (in large part due to a grant from the Riley Purgatory Bluff Creek Watershed District and the city of Chanhassen) excavated and installed a rain garden at the back of our parking lot.  What is a rain garden, you ask? A rain garden is a naturally-made area that captures rain water and pollutants before they enter local water bodies. The native plants used in the rain garden absorb nutrients and water, filter off sediment, and help create food sources for songbirds and pollinators.  Before the rain garden, the runoff from our parking lot went untreated into the Bluff Creek waterway. Now, our impact has been greatly reduced. God calls us to be good stewards of His creation, and this is just one way we have been able to make a difference.
