How You Can Help

Donate Hospice Health Kit Supplies

Throughout April, the Christians in Action committee will be asking for donations of hospice kit supplies (NO ASSEMBLY NEEDED!) for people in Africa suffering from cancer, HIV aids, or other life ending diseases.  Church volunteers or Christian medical professionals will usually personally distribute these kits to small villages in Tanzania, Zimbabwe, Liberia, Cameroon, Nigeria, and Kenya.  Are you wondering how you can provide supplies for this effort?  Please read through the display on the bulletin board for more information about Global Health Ministries, as well as a list of supplies needed.  If you have any questions, please contact Mike Salzwedel at 952-567-9566.

Families Moving Forward: April 15 - 21

Immanuel Lutheran Church in Eden Prairie is a host congregation for “Families Moving Forward” (FMF).  Four times a year Immanuel transforms it’s classrooms for a week into a safe, homey place for families to stay. The families are in transition working with FMF staff to get back on their feet.  It takes many volunteers, doing a wide variety of tasks to make this difficult time a little less stressful for the families. If you are interested in helping, please contact Wendie Ulku or Kim Schaeferle. Or you can sign up for a volunteer position online (please write FoC after your name when you sign so Immanuel Lutheran can identify us).

Glasses Donation

If you are doing some Spring cleaning and come across some random extra glasses of any sort, readers, prescription, sunglasses etc… please consider donating them to the Chanhassen Lions. They will remove the lenses and send them to developing countries to outfit people in need of new glasses! There is a donation box in the Narthex.

Host Families Needed for Luther Crest Camp Leaders

Every year we host the staff from Luther Crest Bible Camp while they are here running our Day Camp. Needed are 3 host homes, each housing 2 or 3 college-aged leaders starting the evening of June 24 running through the morning of June 27. If you would like more information on this or would like to open your home, please contact Teri Burns.

2018 Lawn Mowing Teams Forming

Enjoy fresh air, sunshine and the smell of cut grass as you provide a much-needed service to your church!  If this interests you, then join our volunteer mowing team, led by Mark Spangrud. He is seeking new volunteers to be added to our mowing teams for the 2018 season.  Each team mows our church   property around four times during the season.  If you can help this year or have questions, email Mark directly at mspangrud@mchsi.com. Returning mowers from 2017 can look for an email from Mark to secure your spot on this year’s teams.

TREEHOUSE SERVICE OPPORTUNITY

On Thursday, May 31, at 5:30 FoC will provide a meal for at-risk youth who utilize TreeHouse, a Christian outreach program in Chaska. Volunteers are needed to help serve and provide the food. A sign up sheet will be posted on the CIA bulletin board near the kitchen the first week in May. Questions? Contact Dawn Peterson.

Shared Ministry Volunteers

“Many hands make lite work…” Not to sound motherly but we could  use a lot more hands helping out in our Shared Ministry group! We have a wonderful, dedicated bunch of volunteers currently working very hard to make everyone’s weekly worship experience enjoyable. Please consider helping out in this area whether it be serving coffee (hospitality), communion, ushering or stepping up to be an Assisting Minister! If you’re interested or have questions, contact Kim Schaeferle, our Connections Coordinator.

Know Someone Who Could Benefit from a Prayer Shawl?

The Prayer Shawl Ministry makes prayer shawls for anyone in need of some warmth and comfort, or anyone having a difficult time in their lives.  Please let Melanie Wegner know if you have an idea of someone who could use a prayer shawl.  She would be happy to wrap one up and deliver it.

Want to Help Make the Prayer Shawls?

In the cold, dark nights of winter, would you like to learn how to knit or crochet? It is very comforting and satisfying to pray and serve others by making prayer shawls for people. We would love to teach you.  If you already know how or would like to learn how to crochet or knit, and would like to join us making prayer shawls, please contact Melanie Wegner or join us on Fridays at 11:15am in the church youth room.  Newcomers are always welcome!

Congregational Care

Do you love to cook? We are looking to add to our list of meal donors for families who are going through trying times. When we hear of a family that could use a meal or two, I will send out an email to the whole list, if the date works well for you, you would just respond that you’re available and I would send you their contact information.  You don’t need to commit to a certain number of meals per year; it’s very much an “if it works for you” kind of volunteer spot but one that is very much appreciated by the recipients! Contact Kim if you’re interested in helping out! Thank you!
