How You Can Help

Our Saviour's Housing

We will be taking our turn to serve a meal at Our Saviour’s Housing on Chicago Avenue in Minneapolis on Friday, October 20th. This CIA sponsored event provides a meal for 40 homeless men and women, who stay there for a period of time. If you would like to be part of this ministry, there is a sign-up sheet on the CIA bulletin board near the kitchen for you to sign up to bring food, serve or both. Contact Melissa Gunderson with any questions at 952-807-1122 or at

An Invitation from Sheila Walter:

Many of you know Family of Christ member Leah Nelson, daughter of Chris and Maren, has started chemotherapy.  I am making a photo book to show her our support and love through pictures.  That's where you come in. Take a photo, old or new, of you, your family or friends, or something you find inspiring. Add some words of encouragement, a bible verse or something funny to the photo.  Be creative!!  Leah can take this with her to treatments and see all your smiling faces cheering her on!!  Text or email your photo (or questions) to 952-484-4493, by October 24.

LOVE INC. Coat Drive:

Area churches are invited to take part in a coat drive by Love INC of Eastern Carver County.  Love INC (“in the name of Christ”) is a religious organization that helps link local outreach  efforts between Christian Churches to help neighbors in need.  Look for the reception box by our donation bins all through October.  They welcome new or gently used winter coats, hats, scarves, mittens, gloves, snowpants and boots.  Talk with Pastor Josh if you wish to pitch in and help Love Inc with this coat drive as they are still seeking volunteers.

Shared Ministry Volunteers

“Many hands make lite work…” Not to sound motherly but we could  use a lot more hands helping out in our Shared Ministry group! We have a wonderful, dedicated bunch of volunteers currently working very hard to make everyone’s weekly worship experience enjoyable. Please consider helping out in this area whether it be serving coffee (hospitality), communion, ushering or stepping up to be an Assisting Minister! If you’re interested or have questions, contact

Seeds of Hope is a student sponsorship ministry of Family of Christ that directly benefits students in El Salvador.  Living in extreme poverty, many families cannot afford to buy shoes, books, supplies, uniforms or transportation required for school.  Seeds of Hope enables students to attend school by providing for these needs. Thank you to the 10 sponsors who came forward to sponsor students in the past few weeks. Thank you to the generous sponsors at Family of Christ who currently support about 150 students in school in El Salvador.  We still need support for two university students for the 2018 school year. Five sponsors donating $300 each would fully fund a university student for 2018. 15 donations of $100 would also fully fund a university student. We welcome donations in any amount.  Make a SIGNIFICANT difference by donating online at the Seeds of Hope website.  Questions: call Mark and Janice Laven 952-451-456.

Know Someone Who Could Benefit from a Prayer Shawl?

The Prayer Shawl Ministry makes prayer shawls for anyone in need of some warmth and comfort, or anyone having a difficult time in their lives.  Please let Melanie Wegner know if you have an idea of someone who could use a prayer shawl.  She would be happy to wrap one up and deliver it.

Want to Help Make the Prayer Shawls?

In the cold, dark nights of winter, would you like to learn how to knit or crochet? It is very comforting and satisfying to pray and serve others by making prayer shawls for people. We would love to teach you.  If you already know how or would like to learn how to crochet or knit, and would like to join us making prayer shawls, please contact Melanie Wegner or join us on Fridays at 11:15am in the church youth room.  Newcomers are always welcome!

Congregational Care

Do you love to cook? We are looking to add to our list of meal donors for families who are going through trying times. When we hear of a family that could use a meal or two, I will send out an email to the whole list, if the date works well for you, you would just respond that you’re available and I would send you their contact information.  You don’t need to commit to a certain number of meals per year; it’s very much an “if it works for you” kind of volunteer spot but one that is very much appreciated by the recipients! Contact Kim if you’re interested in helping out! Thank you!
