Backpack Project: Lutheran World Relief School Kits

Thank you to our congregation for picking up all 40 of the provided backpacks.  Now remember to fill them up according to the guide sheet provided by our Christians in Action (CIA) team, (find the sheet on the bulletin board) and get the filled backpacks returned to church by the end of the month.  These school backpacks will then be distributed through the ministry of Lutheran World Relief.  Questions to Jennifer Tepley.

Our Saviour's Housing

We will be taking our turn to serve a meal at Our Saviour’s Housing on Chicago Avenue in Minneapolis on Friday, June 15th . This CIA sponsored event provides a meal for 46 homeless men and women, who stay there for a period of time. If you would like to be part of this ministry, there is a sign-up sheet on the CIA bulletin board near the kitchen for you to sign up to bring food, serve or both. Contact Melissa Gunderson with any questions at or at 952-807-1122.

June 18, July 9 & 23, August 6 & 20

Join us for Mondays throughout the summer to volunteer.

We will have projects from many organizations that are good for people of all ages (those under 6th grade need an adult present at all times).

Morning (9:30am-12pm) and evening (6-8:30pm) sessions will be the same project.

Drop in at the church, join when you are able and stay as long as you want.

The afternoon project (1-4ish) will take place at a local organization.

No RSVP needed for morning/evening, but please RSVP for off-site projects online or on the Kiosk.

First project, 6/18, is with Global Health Ministries (GHM).

Morning/evening: Roll bandages for GHM and/or help with little projects around the church.

Afternoon: Bring a bag lunch and join us for a special presentation and project at GHM. We will carpool from church of you can meet us there. You can indicate which you will do when you sign up and select if you can drive and take passengers.

The next FoC packing session at Feed My Starving Children is scheduled for Wednesday, June 20, from 9:30 - 11:30.  Come join in and pack a bunch of meals. Hunger doesn’t go away and volunteers are short.   No need to sign up, just show up.

Care for Our Rain Garden

Our Creation Care Committee invites folks to help weed our Rain Garden this coming Thursday, June 21 (1st day of Summer) from 7-9 pm.  We need some helpful folks who can provide some loving care to our garden to keep it healthy and beautiful.  Join us that evening anytime during that two-hour work shift, and help us beautify our garden.

New Playground Plans Underway

Last summer, we had to tear down the aging but beloved Noah’s Ark which had fallen into bad shape.  But now, Susan Schmidt from our Preschool and Kris Spangrud on our staff have been on the search for a new playground.  Council-members Robert Hoppe and Andy Olson are seeking to put together a leadership team that can help with landscape, plus assemble the new playground when it arrives (hopefully in June).  Watch for more information on this, and especially watch for the call for volunteers to help out with this special project.

An Evening with Families Moving Forward

Family of Christ will take our next turn on Sunday, July 1, with Families Moving Forward, a ministry with homeless families. We are seeking volunteers to provide food and/or interact with the families who will be in the program at Shepherd of the Hill Presbyterian Church in Chaska. On July 1, we'll serve as hosts from 5 to 8 pm, with dinner being served at 6 pm. In addition to visiting during dinner, we are to be welcoming and attentive during the evening, helping out with the children when appropriate. The address of the church is 145 Engler Blvd. by Highway 41. This is the program center for 33 churches in Scott and Carver Counties. The churches each provide one or two weeks of shelter and services during the year. To participate to be a host contact Richard Donnay.  If specifically contributing to the meal, contact Sue Provo (or call 612-875-4233). A Sign Up Genius is also available.

Proceeds from this auction will help cover some of the extra fun we get to have in Children’s Ministry- Drama Ministry, OWL ministry, craft supplies, Summer Sunday school, etc.

Would you like to help? We are looking for DONATIONS of items and/or services to be in our auction.   Here are just a couple of ideas:

- Do you play an instrument? Donate a couple of lessons.

- Donate an evening of babysitting or a coupon to rake someone’s yard in the fall.

- Are you a baker? Donate a coupon for your famous cake or cookies.

- Have a golf membership? Take 3 new friends out for a round.

- Maybe you have season tickets to a sporting event and could donate a couple.

- Are you a crafter/artist? Donate an original piece.

This auction will be all online the month of September and will conclude during the Fall Picnic. Contact Teri Burns if you have something you’d like to donate. Thank You!

Shared Ministry Volunteers

“Many hands make lite work…” Not to sound motherly but we could  use a lot more hands helping out in our Shared Ministry group! We have a wonderful, dedicated bunch of volunteers currently working very hard to make everyone’s weekly worship experience enjoyable. Please consider helping out in this area whether it be serving coffee (hospitality), communion, ushering or stepping up to be an Assisting Minister! If you’re interested or have questions, contact Kim Schaeferle, our Connections Coordinator.

Know Someone Who Could Benefit from a Prayer Shawl?

The Prayer Shawl Ministry makes prayer shawls for anyone in need of some warmth and comfort, or anyone having a difficult time in their lives.  Please let Melanie Wegner know if you have an idea of someone who could use a prayer shawl.  She would be happy to wrap one up and deliver it.

Want to Help Make the Prayer Shawls?

In the cold, dark nights of winter, would you like to learn how to knit or crochet? It is very comforting and satisfying to pray and serve others by making prayer shawls for people. We would love to teach you.  If you already know how or would like to learn how to crochet or knit, and would like to join us making prayer shawls, please contact Melanie Wegner or join us on Fridays at 11:15am in the church youth room.  Newcomers are always welcome!

Congregational Care

Do you love to cook? We are looking to add to our list of meal donors for families who are going through trying times. When we hear of a family that could use a meal or two, I will send out an email to the whole list, if the date works well for you, you would just respond that you’re available and I would send you their contact information.  You don’t need to commit to a certain number of meals per year; it’s very much an “if it works for you” kind of volunteer spot but one that is very much appreciated by the recipients! Contact Kim if you’re interested in helping out! Thank you!

Thrivent Choice Dollars

Thrivent Members Please consider donating your Thrivent Choice Dollars today to Family of Christ. In the past, these dollars have been used to sponsor J-Term, the summer Block Party and the Annual Meeting Luncheon. Thanks for all your support – these dollars really add up fast!
